Male Performance look

Now that I that I have put together my cast list and chosen the male role for my performance character- Danny Barley, I have been able to focus my research on two specific styles that I know will suit Danny down with what I would like him to wear.

James Franco- is a very famous and well known actor, film maker, teacher and author. He has appeared in films such as Spiderman, 127 hours and Rise of the planet of the Apes.
His very rugged yet modish style brings across a fashion statement from 60's, and also in some other music videos that I have watched from one of my chosen genres- Adult contemporary.

Ray Quinn- isn’t a very well known artist, but was most famous for being on X factor, and bringing out his only swing album called 'Doing It My Way'.
He is however very admired in the theatrical business.  He has a very smooth, sexy 60's swagger going on, something which also links back to both my genres- Adult contemporary and Pop.

I have asked Danny to wear a specific black suit and a white shirt, no cufflinks and his sophisticated black shoes. I am not to sure whether I would like him to wear a bow tie, or a simple black tie. That’s something that I will chose on the first day of filming. I feel that this image is appropriate as it links to the set style I have chosen, follows Adult contemporary, but is a different image to how James Morrison is featured in the original video

Female Performance Image

After looking through all the research I have collected, and deciding on my set style- 60's vintage, I have been able to narrow down my performers image in my video.
I have decided upon a graceful, wacky, bold colouring, and elegant designs of one of the 60's most influential clothing- dresses.

My performer in my music video- Iona Gladwin already has a similar dress to those of the images I have been able to collect, giving the approach of where my video is going. The dress is knee high, with a merge of dark colourings and unique patterns which includes a white collar.  I have asked her to wear skin toned tights and some little black shoes which will added to the sophisticated 60's vintage image.

From this, I was then able to look through the rest of my research and narrow down the last couple of hairstyles and makeup for the image of my performer.

I decided on the very formal chic image of
Barbra Streisand alongside the 60's natural makeup extinguishing my performers check bones, highlighting her eyes by flicking out the ends of her eyeliner(Although, I was thinking about making the flicks a bit thicker to make her eyes standout a bit more), and the clear lip gloss.
I am hoping that this look will illustrate both 60's vintage and my two genres; Adult Contemporary and Pop.

Narrative Look

The look I am trying to project is a very young 60's design.
The colour's co inside with my choice of locations.
The young innocent look will bring across the story I aiming to project.

Chosen locations

Location .1. North Ferriby Foreshore
Ferriby Foreshore is one of the best places I know to catch the sun setting, and rising. I am hoping that it will help to catch the narrative story to my music video.

Location .2. North Ferriby Woodland
Ferriby Woodlands, is also a perfect filming location for my narrative story.
It has the most stunning walk ways, Views of the sun setting through the trees, and you can capture the  natural beauty of a woodland. I am hoping that it will help set the scene of my narrative story for my music video.

Location .3. Wyke College Theatre
I thought that the theatre at my college is the perfect location to shot my performance side to my music video. It has a massive dance floor, with a black drop set. I am able to borrow lamps which I am hoping to us to capture and create the 60's vintage look.
I also have the use of the lighting in the theatre. Whilst doing some practice test shots, I will be trying out different lighting with my stage appearance.

Location.4. Hessle Forshore
I thought that this location would be the perfect place to film my narrative story. The location has three stunning pond/river locations dotted round. It has the right characteristics that I have been looking for, the natural lighting is displayed through the trees.

My cast list for my Music Video

The Genres of music which make the song I have chosen are Adult contemporary, and Pop.
From this I have been able to create two different structures to my music video. A Performance side which will include two artists, my friends Danny and Iona.
And a Narrative side being shown by my other friend Lucy.

Danny Barley
Danny will  present my male singer in my music video. He is a very talented musician, and will always put 100% work and effort into what he is doing. With his dashingly good looks, polished characteristics, and smooth style, he has everything I am trying to present in the song I have chosen.

Iona Gladwin
Iona will present my female artist. She is also a very talented musician, and loves to get her hands stuck into everything, making all the work she does outstanding.
Iona has a very delicate, sophisticated style upon herself, a popular 60's female look. An image I am trying to present in my music video.

Lucy Clark
Lucy will be acting out the narrative story in my music video. Lucy is very petite, giving a natural appearance. The story I have created presents a young innocent girl fascinated with nature, and the world itself. I feel that Lucy would bring across both personality, and characteristics I am looking for within an character being the main focal point of my story.

Eye make up Ideas

Neutral Eye Makeup
Neutral look was very popular in the 60's. It comes across as very delicate, soft, and fresh. This could be one of my choices.

Smoky Eye Makeup
The Smoky eye gives an almost oriental look. Again this appealed to me as a possible choice.

60'S Eye Makeup
This typical 60's style was used to accentuate the eye making it bigger and bolder. This is another one of my main choices.

Treble Clef Eye Makeup
I find this look unusual, yet unique. Giving the eye a very tonal feature. This is another look I have considered as an option.

Electric Eye Makeup
The Electric look was mainly used towards the end of the 60's early 70's. I like how the colours bring out the eye making the eye the for front of the facial feature. This appealed to me as another one of my choices.

Influential 60's Make up looks

I started focusing my research into makeup ideas for my two female cast members. Relating back to the original music video,I looked at how Jessie J's makeup is. They have made her look very causal. Simple yet elegant I think. They use a smokey eye shadow, with clear foundation and clear lip gloss. I do like the idea of having one of my cast members with smokey eyes, but I do feel like there maybe different looks I could approach. But also making sure that I link back to the appearance of Jessie J in the video.

But I am also interested in linking each look to the genres of the song itself; Adult contemporary and Pop.  Looking at some makeup styles from the two genres, they both are interlinked with the way Jessie J is portrayed in the original music video. With the adult contemporary look, most artist wear clear lipgloss with the added effect of smokey eyes. Where as the Pop style has the natural eye makeup that artists like Adele and Madonna feature.
But all these looks all relate back to my interest of 60's vintage. so I carried on with my research on iconic female actresses, musicians and models around the 60's period with there unique fashion trends.

Audrey Hepburn;
A well known actress from the 1950's. Some of her most successful and well known rolls are; 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', 'My fair lady' and 'Charade'
She was always highly complimented for her sophisticated style. The hypnotic eyes, floor-less complexion and the seductive red lipstick really stood out.
60's Neutral
I could also relate Audery Hepbruns style to the classic 60's natural. Apart from the very chic red lipstick. As it says its a very natural look, simple eyeliner with a slight flick towards with end. floor-less complextion, but with emphasis on the check bones, and clear lip gloss.
This appeals to me as it is a very close look to Jessie J's in the original video.

Mariyln Monroe
Was a tremendous star in the 60's. She was well known for her careers in music, the film industry as an actresses and producer and modeling. Her 'blonde bombshell' with seductive red lipstick image drove the 60's area wild including her sensual style. A performance look which could illustrate both genres of my music video.

Influential 60's Hair Styles

I then decided on the look that I wanted for each of my artists and props which I may consider using when filming. I decided on trying to combine each artists look upon both genres, and the set style that I had chosen, 60’s vintage, and kept the props to the minimum. When researching the set out for a performance, I looked upon using a traditional microphone from the 60’s period. But it was unlikely to be able to get hold of such a microphone, so instead I looked upon using a traditional microphone from modern day.  Doing research into Adult Contemporary and Pop, I have been able to outline each look/style of artist within that genre. Adult contemporary is very elegant and chic. Male artists wearing; grey, white or black suits, Formal but sophisticated. Whereas the female artist are featured in long gowns, evening dresses and cocktail dresses, an image and style which a lot of females love to wear.
The hairstyles are also very smart and formal an ideal look for my music video.

Pop on the other hand is completely different, and possibly not the image I am looking to set my music video on. The clothing is very bold, makes the artist standout for its genre,  something which I am not looking for.
But perhaps I can merge both iconic styles together?
One of the first thoughts that came to my mind was what hairstyles could I have to separate each of my cast as their own character?
I did some research into female artists ranging from the 60's, to modern day music.
Watching my chosen music video 'Up', I considered to how the team had dressed both James Morrison and Jessie J. Trying to link ideas I would like to carry through to the production of my music video with the original.
Barbra Streisand-  A very Iconic figure  in modern day film and music industry. But she was in her prim of her career in the 60's. The images I collected portray her very elegant and mature 60's look.  An image I am considering for a cast member.

Lana Del Rey- A artist from modern day music. Lana Del Rey is the only artist within my influential look that goes into the category genre-Pop. But I consider her look as a very innocent 60's look with the appropriate piggy-tails.
I would consider this for my narrative look, due to the character I would like to illustrate in my music video

LuLu- Another very influential artist from the 60's. As well as her career in music which started from a very young age, she dabbled in another art; film and television.
LuLu was highly complimented on her petite, sweet girls image. Perhaps another influential look I could illustrate my narrative in my video.

Marilyn Monroe- Was a tremendous star in the 60's. She was well known for her careers in music, the film industry as an actresses and producer and modeling. Her 'blonde bombshell' image drove the 60's area wild including her sensual style. A performance look which could illustrate both genres of my music video.
